The number of young entrepreneurs starting up their own business has increased by nearly a quarter (22%) in the past three years, according to research by information services company Experian.

However, 45% these businesses are wound up within two and a half years, although when a director aged over 26 is also on the board, this rate improves significantly.

The third quarter of 2011 has seen a 22% increase in new assignments for interim managers, according to an Interim Management Association (IMA) quarterly survey.

Conducted by Ipsos MORI, the poll found that the private sector now accounts for 65% of completed interim managerial assignments, up from 61% in Q2, the highest level since Q4 2007, pre-recession.

Career service cuts in England are risking the futures of young people, according a report entitled ‘Uncertain futures’ by the Institute of Career Guidance.

The survey shows almost one in six respondents said that the entire careers service in their area was due to close or had already closed, while half say their employer had already made redundancies or issued “at risk” notices.
