Seven recruitment firms have earned places in The Sunday Times ’100 Best Companies to Work For 2010’, while eight others were among the top 100 ’Best Small Companies to Work For’.

Recruitment agency review site HireScores.com has “noted a trend in the days that employees are likely to pull a sickie”.

A recruitment firm that posted an IT advert on behalf of a client asking for someone ’preferably of Indian origin’ has responded to calls of racism following an article in the Daily Mail.

The Service Providers Association (SPA) has rebranded as the Freelancer and Contractor Services Association (FCSA).


The association, which provides employment, payroll tax, accountancy and administrative support and advice to the professional freelancers, is to also make its code of conduct publicly available.

The Tennessee Attorney General’s office announced last week it has filed suits against the owner of four employment agencies in the state for allegedly promising workers jobs at exaggerated salary levels, and of charging jobseekers an upfront fee. Tennessee law only allows employment agencies to collect fees after applicants have been placed.

Australian recruiter Ambition has announced that James Ash has joined its UK subsidiary, Witan Jardine as managing director of its finance & accountancy business.

Ash is responsible for the development of the UK finance and accountancy business, while growing strong existing relationships within the accountancy, legal, property and media sectors.

At last someone from a recruitment background comes out and says what a lot of people have been saying for a long time but the recruitment agency sector has failed to take notice of (Recruiter, Bloggers with Bite, 14 October). Roger [Philby] is spot on and I speak as someone who has worked on both sides of the fence.

I really enjoyed Roger Philby’s recent comment piece (Recruiter, Bloggers with Bite, 14 October) and it has set me to thinking on a range of issues.
