The Tennessee Attorney General’s office announced last week it has filed suits against the owner of four employment agencies in the state for allegedly promising workers jobs at exaggerated salary levels, and of charging jobseekers an upfront fee. Tennessee law only allows employment agencies to collect fees after applicants have been placed.
According to newspaper reports, the owner, Linda McCluskey, advertised jobs with salaries ranging from $50,000 to $500,000, as well as signing bonuses. McCluskey’s businesses are accused of not arranging interviews and, in some cases, not contacting any employers at all, the office reported.
Employment agencies involved include Britton James & Associates, The Franklin Group of America, Hamilton Clark International and The Renaissance Group International, according to the Attorney General’s office. The businesses have generated complaints from more than two dozen people, according to the office.
