The BBC reports that a Mexican illegal immigrant was prevented entering the UK after a search of his luggage uncovered a good luck card for his ‘new life in the UK’. The man, arriving at Manchester Airport from Los Angeles, claimed he was on a brief visit to a friend who was opening his own restaurant in North- West England.

Travel recruiter C&M is demonstrating its green credentials to suppliers, customers and staff following its decision to sign up to the Green Achiever scheme.

The scheme, developed by environmental consultancy E4 environment, requires business to complete a questionnaire to outline its responsibilities and receive a listing in the Green Achiever online directory.

BT has announced it is to shed 15,000 jobs this year, most of which will go in the UK as it reported losses of £134m.

The BBC reports that BT’s problems stem from its global services unit, which handles the network systems of big organisations. BT added it had taken a near £1.5bn write-down at this unit.

International recruiter Michael Page posted a fall in its UK profits for its half-year results. Revenue fell by 27% to £364.7m from £500m, while gross profits slumped to £178.8m, down from £292.7m. Operating profit was £32.2m, from £84.9m in 2008.
