The British Antarctic Survey has launched a recruitment campaign to attract carpenters, electricians, plant technicians, plumbers and chefs to work at its research stations. Flexible contracts will run from four to 18 months, while starting salaries are £23,000 per annum. Accommodation, travel, clothing and food will also be provided.

Manpower profits slump

Global recruiter Manpower reported a drop in profits for the three months ending 31 March 2009.

Pay increases have plunged and are continuing to decline, according to Labour Research Department’s (LRD) Payline database for April.

The median for April pay settlements stands at just 1.5%, and if long-term deals are excluded, it is zero.
