The Work Foundation, an independent authority on work and its future, has published a paper analysing how far the UK is from recovery and what policies are required to bring it about.

UK manufacturing employment declined for the 20th consecutive month in December but the rate of reduction was the weakest since May 2008.

Under 35s are more likely to be off work due to being ‘under the weather’, according to new research from recruitment outsourcing firm Elemense.

The research shows that under 35s are twice as likely as their older colleagues to be off work in the winter because they are ‘under the weather’ and were also twice as likely to stay late at work due to darker evenings.

Korn/Ferry International has bought Sensa Solutions, a provider of management consulting to US federal government agencies. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sensa provides strategic planning, training, executive coaching and other services.

Multi-sector recruiter and training agency Acorn has recruited Sarah Hancock as industrial resourcer for its Bristol branch.

Hancock took the role after previously seeking Acorn’s services to find her temporary work. After a 15 month placement with Bezier as a client services executive ended, Acorn recruited Hancock.

IT recruiter InterQuest Group said it has seen a significant increase in Q4 permanent placements and expects its full-year results to be in line with market expectations in a trading update for the year ended 31 December 2009.

US multi-sector recruiter MPS Group has announced that its shareholders have approved a merger agreement for the merger of MPS Group with Adecco Inc, a Delaware corporation, and Jaguar Acquisition Corp, a Florida corporation and wholly owned subsidiary of Adecco.

The executive search market is set to recover in 2010, according to executive search firm Hitchenor Wakeford.

Managing director John Wakeford says that already in the first quarter the firm is seeing increased demand for CFOs and senior finance executives, and retail and support services continue to boom, with increased international searches.

Fewer than half (47%) of UK employees consider their senior leadership team to be effective, according to a study by the Kenexa Research Institute.

The survey of 21,920 employees in 18 countries shows that employees in India (69%), Brazil (59%) and the US (54%) report the highest ratings of leadership effectiveness followed by those in China (53%) and Canada (52%).
