Steve Girdler: companies need to act quickley to secure the best possible people

I am writing in response to your article ’Using technology to fish for candidates’ (Recruiter, 8 December 2010) about talent pools.

I agree that maintaining an internal talent pool can be an excellent way to access high quality candidates while controlling costs.

Recruiting through business media brands is more likely to land a higher quality of job candidate than through methods such as job boards and social media, according to the PPA Recruitment Advertising Survey.

IT services firm Parity Group has appointed Alastair Woolley as an executive director.

Woolley joins the board as finance director and replaces Ian Ketchin, who formally resigned as finance director on 31 March.

Legal staffing specialist ASA Law, part of Initio International, has appointed Ryan King as administrator and trainee legal consultant.

The law graduate joins the firm’s clinical negligence and personal injury team.

International recruiter Robert Walters has seen its Asia Pacific business deliver a “solid performance” as profits have risen, according to an interim management statement for Q1 ended 31 March.

The group’s results reveal:

Profits are up at Michael Page International driven by permanent placements, according to a Q1 interim management statement from the professional recruiter.

The statement reveals:

Umbrella company Parasol has taken on Jason Plom as national sales manager and Phil Barker as national account manager.

With 10 years’ experience in the recruitment sector, most recently at Orion Locums as sales director, Plom will be responsible for building on Parasol’s existing relationships with over 2,000 UK recruiters.

Midas Rec2Rec has appointed Maria Finn as head of search for the firm’s rec-to-rec function.

Finn previously recruited senior sales professionals into medical and pharma markets at life sciences and pharmaceutical rec-to-rec specialist A La Carte Selection.

The IT sector is poised to experience a shortage of permanent IT talent, according to research from Hays IT.

The research shows that around 15% of staff claim they are very dissatisfied with their benefits package, and 61% say their employer could be more generous with benefits.
