Workers’ reluctance to leave their existing job to take up new opportunities elsewhere is exacerbating the UK’s talent shortage.

This is according to the annual Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Resourcing and Talent Planning survey, produced in partnership with Hays.

Talent acquisition and management will be debated at a London HR Connection event, held in conjunction with the London School of Economics, on 27 June at the London School of Economics (LSE).

Scotland’s labour market showed continued improvement in May, according to The Bank of Scotland Labour Market Barometer.

The Barometer posted a reading of 56.5 in May, down from 56.6 in April.

Following the collapse of Southern Cross, the UK’s biggest care home group, other care homes report they are seeing an increase in applications from Southern Cross staff.

A tightening of the purse strings in the UK’s public sector has hit Q2 revenues at  Randstad, according to a spokesperson for the recruitment giant.

Yesterday Randstad reported increased group revenues of €3.915bn (£3.44bn), up 13%, but in the UK in Q2 revenue rose by just 2% with demand declining further in healthcare and public sector administration.

Discount retailer Poundland is to create around 180 new jobs through an expansion into the Republic of Ireland.

The initial stores, trading under the name ‘Dealz’, will be launched in the Republic of Ireland in early October and will create 120 jobs. It is understood that local recruitment is well under way.
