Irish recruiters look to take advantage in UK market

UK recruiters and other organisations working across sector look set to face increasingly stiff competition from Irish companies, who are looking to grow their presence in the UK market.

Fresh from an Irish trade mission to Manchester, David Corcoran (pictured), senior market adviser, and UK and global lead at Enterprise Ireland, the Irish government agency that helps Irish businesses to start-up, innovate and grow internationally, told Recruiter: “We believe our companies are among the most flexible and innovative in the talent management sector – they have the multinational experience and they are already successful in the UK.

“We believe there is an Irish advantage. Many companies in the UK are already utilising that advantage and we think there are opportunities for more [Irish companies].”

Corcoran said his team at Enterprise Ireland currently supports 115 Irish organisations within its “talent management solutions acquisition wheel”. These include traditional recruitment companies, such as ttm Healthcare, Grafton Recruitment and Morgan McKinley, but also a growing number of recruitment technology-driven companies, such as video interviewing technology firm Sonru and recruitment software firm BidRecruit.

Corcoran said a particular strong point of Irish companies was the flexibility and adaptability of their workforce, with Ireland being ranked sixth in the world, according to IMD’s World Competitiveness Yearbook 2017 – up one place from the previous year.

In addition, Corcoran said that with Ireland being a hotbed of multinationals this allowed Irish companies to develop and grow with their clients. This in turn helped them improve their solutions and their technology, which they could then successfully export to the UK and other international markets.
