Dublin’s so-called ‘Silicon Docks’, sometimes alternately called ‘the EU Silicon Valley’ hosts a number of tech firms, including many with California headquarters such as Facebook and Google.
And companies announcing new tech jobs in Dublin just in recent months include AOL, Merchant Warehouse and Squarespace, Yahoo! and Zurich while technology recruiters GCS also set up in the city last month.
Barry O’Leary, IDA’s chief executive officer says: “When companies make decisions to locate operations in foreign countries, direct air access from their headquarters is a very important factor.”
“Approximately 40% of the foreign direct investment to Ireland from the US comes from the Silicon Valley area,” he notes.
The five-flights-per-week programme commences in April next year.
