Demand for jobs in IT suggests period of growth

The boss of IT recruiter Computer People says that demand for talent in the IT and computing sector is promising a “period of growth”.
Computer People MD Niall Cook’s comments come as the firm releases the latest edition of its IT Monitor, available on the recruiter's website, which shows that overall demand has increased through this year on a monthly basis, but has failed to match the height of this time last year.
The report is put together using market intelligence from major job boards and data from brands within Computer People parent company Adecco, as well as from company websites, social media and recruitment sector market intelligence firm Innovantage.
The permanent market looks promising, with volumes increasing month-on-month, the report says. Cook suggests that this incline proves a long awaited boost of confidence in the economy.
Vacancies for managerial roles have risen by 15.8% month-on-month – the only sector to increase, and by almost twice its nearest rival. Meanwhile, vacancies for directors have significantly decreased, by 20.7% on the month and by almost 50% over the past 12 months.
Overall, the contract market has displayed a volatile but predominantly positive year, the report suggests. Market demand for contractors has increased by 16.7%, and director vacancies have increased despite the limited number of roles available this month.
Contract job increases within the business intelligence sector were the highest, with these roles 46.8% more in demand than this time last year.
On a regional scale, London and the South-East have an increased market share of 52%, and even higher at 60% in the contract market. But demand grew nationally, with the largest growth coming in Scotland and Wales.
