Retailers Amazon and Matalan have announced they will be taking on an extra 10,000 and 5,000 staff respectively over the Christmas period.
In both cases it is noted – as is customary with temporary seasonal roles – that while positions are temporary initially, there is the possibility for recruitment of temp staff into permanent roles after festivities are over.Matalan has 212 stores in the UK and took on around half the number of Christmas staff last year, while Amazon has just announced the creation of 2,000 extra permanent jobs in the UK, including 600 at its new distribution centre in Hemel Hempstead, its eighth nationally.
The announcements come on the back of Argos beginning its search for 12,000 Christmas workers, and with Sainsbury’s saying it was due to hire 15,000.
