Singapore
The top talent in biomedical science appear to be setting their sights on Asia, with Singapore in particular the destination of choice, according to a recent survey by RSA Singapore.
Respondents, mostly senior executives, say they are attracted largely by the career opportunities presented by the country’s growing biomedical sciences industry. Singapore’s high living standards, secure environment and favourable tax regime are also cited. China and Australia were ranked second and third top destinations of choice respectively.
The survey, part of a larger study by RSA of more 400 biomedical sciences professionals from Europe and Asia, also showed that those in Asia were positive about the industry outlook. They expect higher salaries over the next 12 months, with half indicating significant increments of 30%-50%. The improving market confidence, however, may result in higher turnover. But according to the survey, the decision to switch companies is driven mostly by opportunities for career development, followed by salary and an appealing work-life balance.
With much of the industry in Asia freezing headcount and salaries over the last two years due to the financial crisis, this finding gives recruiters and biomedical sciences professionals something to cheer about.
