With car production here on the rise, the UK automotive industry is in good health and creating jobs.
The number of cars produced in the UK in November was up 8.5% on the previous month, reaching 136,111, its highest level since early 2009, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This was its sixth consecutive monthly rise.
A spokesperson for automotive recruiter HCP International tells Recruiter it has seen a “buoyant October and November”, adding: “In the last six months particularly we have noticed a strong increase in buyer demand, and demand for more automotive recruitment services as new positions have opened up.”
Statistics from jobsite CV Library show that while the number of new CVs registered in the automotive sector in November this year (2,877) is significantly down on November 2010’s level (3,645), there has been an increase since the summer, when only 2,408 CVs were registered to the website in June.
The HCP International spokesperson continues: “In terms of wages and skills, companies seem to be offering less salary but a better package… We believe in this way companies are trying to increase employee commitment, maintain job opportunities and avoid the difficulties of the economic climate.
“On the other hand, there is a far higher demand for jobs than there are positions, so companies may realise they are in a position to offer less for the role due to high competition.”
As reported by recruiter.co.uk on 25 November, Toyota is set to invest more than £100m in UK operations, creating 1,500 new jobs at its Burnaston factory over the next two years.
