Fees would put IT professionals off degrees

More than half of IT professionals would not do an IT-related degree today if they were paying increased fees, according to research from IT recruitment website CWJobs.

More than half of IT professionals would not do an IT-related degree today if they were paying increased fees, according to research from IT recruitment website CWJobs.

The research shows 45% feel a degree in computing is no longer valuable for securing a career in IT and 71% stated that self-taught developers are as skilled as those with formal training or education.

Richard Nott, website director at CWJobs, says: “It’s interesting to see that less of a premium is being placed on traditional routes into IT by people already established in their careers. The market will need to respond to this by supporting talent at a grass roots level if we’re going to keep young people with the appetite and capability for IT in the UK.”
