CEO complaints

Cheerless CEOs complain about red tape.

British Chief Executive Officers complain more about red tape than their international counterparts.

A poll by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) found 90% of CEOs thought the government had increased the regulatory burden.
Asian business leaders were most positive, with 59% of the Japanese and 53% of Indian CEOs saying regulatory burden had declined.

However, Andrew Ratcliffe, a partner at PwC, thinks the findings may be linked to perception of regulation rather than a genuine increase.
“I don’t think the UK is markedly worse than other countries, the media preoccupation with red tape and the perception that the UK ‘goldplates’ EU regulations might have coloured the findings,” he said.

According to the Federation of Small Businesses, 82 new pieces of legislation had been introduced this month, the majority as part of the governments red tape day.
