The number of professional job opportunities in Ireland in Q1 2012 is up by 18% on the same period last year – with the number of new jobs in March (9,246) up 9% from February.

This is according to the latest Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor. This more buoyant jobs market was more than matched with new jobseekers - compared to the same time last year, there was a 57% rise in the number of professionals seeking new job opportunities.

Karen O’Flaherty, chief operations officer at Morgan McKinley in Ireland, says: “Demand for IT professionals and those with multilingual skills across all sectors remains consistently high.

“Positively for the hiring market overall, redundancy announcements in Q1 12 have broadly been offset by the number of job creation announcements, namely HCL, Sogeti Ireland and Blackrock Incorporated.

“The increased confidence in the recruitment market is tempered by evidence of short-term business forecasting, demonstrated by a rise in demand for professionals to fill project and fixed-term contracts versus permanent hires.”
