The 2012 Olympics will boost lower level hospitality roles and not necessarily apprenticeships, recruiters have claimed.

Brian Wisdom, chief executive of sector skills council for hospitality People 1st, has called upon employers to recruit apprenticeships to bridge the employment gap in areas such as chefs, customer service teams and managers.

Recruiters have been urged to focus on the recruitment process rather than the placement outcome by business consultant Jeff Grout.

Speaking at an event organised by recruitment website development firm 4MAT at Dartmouth House in London, Grout said that recruiters should prioritise KPIs (key performance indicators).

Newport Wales-based specialist search and selection company Agg Jones Search and Selection has secured equity and debt co-investment from Finance Wales, HSBC and the Welsh Assembly Government as part of a £475,000 expansion.

Unemployment among IT contractors is only half of what it was following the dot.com crash of five years ago, according to research from contractor services provider giant group.

The research shows that at the end of 2003, 13% of IT contractors were unemployed for 90 days or more. This compares with 7.5% in giant’s latest survey.
