Overtime in the banking sector has almost trebled, according to a survey by banking and finance recruiter Badenoch & Clark.

Almost half (47%) of employees are putting in more hours, while over three quarters (77%) of those working longer hours are working ‘50 hours or more’ each week, compared with 17% in 2007 and 26% in autumn 2008.

Most Polish firms (52%) are continuing to hire professionals, while 30% are firing professionals and managers, according to global staffing firm Antal.

The research shows that hiring levels are the highest in the pharmacy (89%), IT & Telecom (64%) and FMCG (63%) and the lowest in automotive (22%) or real estate and building (33%).

Profits at multi-sector recruiter HR GO were boosted by the sale of Human Engineering, one of its subsidiary companies during the year.

Although after tax profits for the year ending 31 December 2008 rose to £1.58m compared with £715,000 in 2007, after taking receipts from the sale of Human Engineering into account, operating profits actually declined from £1.59m in 2007 to £496,000.
