Five years’ growth has been wiped off recruitment firms’ permanent revenues, as turnover has dropped by £2.3bn in 12 months.

Data from Recruitment Industry Benchmarking (RIB) found members’ permanent revenue fell by 53.2% compared with the previous year, reverting back to 2004 levels.

The key themes that have driven staffing share prices higher this year remained intact over the past fortnight. Although the trading environment remains tough, glimmers of light are emerging in a few corners of the labour market and forward looking indicators of economic activity continue to positively surprise.

Right4Staff made after tax profits of £2.303m in the year ending 31 December 2008. This was a sllght decrease on the previous year’s figure of £2.537m.

However, profits before tax rose from to £3.8m from £3.5m in 2007/2008.

Turnover fell from £99.7m to £91.5m.

Jobs search engine 1Job has launched UK Jobs, an application for the iPhone, which enables jobseekers to search for vacancies wherever they are and at any time. 

The allows a fully functional search of the 1Job database of advertised vacancies, updated daily, across the UK and Ireland.

Hexagon announced an increase in net fee income for the year ended 31 March, although as Jonathan Wright, its chief executive told Recruiter, it was “very much a year of two halves” as the company was hit by the downturn in permanent recruitment in the second half.
