Multi-sector recruiter Hays has opened an office in Mumbai, India.

Hays currently employs 8,294 staff operating from 380 offices in 27 countries across 17 sectors.

Michael Page continued to cut staff numbers during the first quarter of 2009 as the impact of the financial crisis continued to affect its business.

Workplace rivalry is on the increase in the accountancy profession with 69% saying that colleagues are becoming more competitive to retain their jobs, according to a survey by jobs board CareersinAudit.com.

International recruiter Randstad has announced a loss in the first quarter of 2009.

The company reported a net loss of €52.6m (£46.7m) compared to a €75.1m (£66.7m) net profit a year ago. 

In what the company described as “a difficult quarter”,  revenue dropped by 28% to €3.1bn compared to a pro forma figure - which is adjusted for the acquistion of Vedior - of €4.2bn.

Among those taking the plunge are John Bowmer and Tony Reeves, the non-executive co-chairmen at Kellan Group, who each purchased 375,000 shares at a price of 4.375p on 17 April. The shares have since jumped to 10p.
