The EU slashed some 125,000 jobs and created just 31,000 in the last quarter, according to Eurofound’s European Restructuring Monitor (ERM).
The monitor also shows that unemployment is rising less sharply in some EU Member States along with restructuring related job losses, further evidence that the situation may be stabilising.
The number of 18-24-year-olds now classed as neets (not in employment, education, or training) has increased by 105,000 in the past year to 835,000, according to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
The DCSF figures show that one in six young people are now neets, 17.6% of all 18-24-year-olds in the UK.
