Transport & logistics recruiter Driver Hire has seen turnover rise by 22% to £70m, according to its results for the year to April 2011.

Earnings before Interest & Tax (EBIT) rose by 45%, while 17 of the firm’s 95-office nationwide network grew turnover by 50% or more.

IT & telecoms staffing specialist Vine Resources has moved to new offices but staying in the heart of the City of London at 23 Austin Friars. 

The firm says the move was due to the need for larger space to accommodate a growing team.

Built environment recruiter Bromak has opened a new 3,000-sq ft headquarters in Bolton.

The new office will be home to 20 built environment recruitment specialists.

The health of the UK’s micro and small business community improved in April, according to global information services company Experian.

Experian’s Insolvency Index reveals that 1,808 UK companies, 0.10% of the active business community, became insolvent in April 2011, 0.55% fewer than the same period in 2010 (1,818).

The average base pay for senior City staff has risen by 20% over the last year, says financial services recruiter Astbury Marsden.

The research shows average base salaries – for back, middle and front office vice-president (VP) level staff across all investment banks rose £81,250 to £97,500 over the last year, while some VP staff may be earning a base salary of more than £160,000.

Umbrella firm JSA has appointed Ian Mavrogiannakos as online marketing executive.

Elsewhere, Campbell Curtis joins as key account manager, responsible for account management and business development of JSA’s largest clients within the professional services sectors. 

Iain St John has also joined the JSA sales team as business development executive.

The apprentice agency has launched in Reading and Oxford.

A joint venture by the Learning and Skills Network (LSN) and The Workshop, the agency partners with colleges to help small businesses by offering them ‘work-ready’ apprentices.

The government must take action to ensure that its commitment to boost the UK’s small and medium-sized enterprises is realised at the working level, the chairman of the REC Technology sector group has said.
