Millie Banerjee CBE has been appointed chair of Working Links, an organisation which provides services to help get disadvantaged people into sustainable employment.

Currently she chairs the British Transport Police Authority and is a non-executive director of the East London NHS Primary Care Trust Cluster.  

Private section job creation in the North-East went up between September and October but down in the rest of the UK, according to the Lloyds TSB North East Purchasing Managers Index (PMI).

The UK-wide PMI for employment dropped from 50.1 to 49.7 between September and October, indicating that overall growth of employment had turned into moderate job shrinkage between the two months.

LSE will join over 20 UK universities with guides published by the firm when the first edition is published in autumn 2012.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has appointed Jan Scott as head of human resources.

She will lead the organisation’s recruitment and employee relations strategy, including the drive to recruit people into 1,044 roles, to be undertaken with Search Consultancy as exclusive recruitment partner.

Scott also sits on the organising committee for the games.

The healthcare arm of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) has raised concern over the removal of healthcare professionals from frontline duties due to present financial pressures.

Delivering his Autumn Statement, Chancellor George Osborne has suggested that  while unemployment is a jobs problem, it is also down to the fact that the UK is experiencing a lack of skills.
