The results of elections for corporate and individual directors’ seats on the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) Council were revealed today at the REC’s Annual General Meeting in London.

Winning corporate directors’ seats and the number of votes received were:

Average hourly rates for contractors have fallen in the past year, according to research from umbrella firm Parasol.

The research shows the average hourly rate for umbrella contractors has fallen in the last 12 months from £34.41 to £33.12; however, contractors over 35 are typically £10 an hour better off then their younger counterparts.

The number of retail jobs fell 0.4% in Q2 on the same quarter last year, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC)-Bond Pearce Retail Employment Monitor (REM).

The Monitor has now recorded three consecutive months of negative annual jobs growth.

Men are paid an average of 18.5% more than women, according to a study by job site reed.co.uk.

The Great British Salary Survey which polled more than 6,000 UK workers, found that, on average, male workers working full or part time earn £27,241, compared to £22,988 for female staff. 

Just one in five UK workers think their boss has good communication skills, according to research from global executive search firm Korn/Ferry Whitehead Mann.

The research also shows UK workers rate communication skills as most important in a good business leader with team motivation skills ranked second. However, just 13% of employees think their boss is a good motivator.
