Green energy firm aims to bring skilled jobs to Kent

Hydrogen TE (UK) is seeking planning permission from Kent County Council to build the UK’s first waste-to-hydrogen base at a 10-acre site in Manston, near Ramsgate. The project aims to convert household and commercial waste into clean hydrogen, significantly cutting landfill and carbon emissions.

According to a report from news site BDaily, bosses say the jobs would include skilled and graduate roles, alongside a training centre to foster local talent. The hydrogen produced will supply commercial heavy vehicle fleets and waste management operations, helping meet UK net-zero targets.

Michael Engsted, Hydrogen TE managing director, says: “This area of Kent has seen a huge depletion in jobs over the past few decades, which has forced many skilled workers and graduates to relocate.

“We are determined to help revitalise the local community by giving talented individuals a reason for staying here. We are committed to prioritising local recruitment for positions including finance, engineering and science.”

According to BDaily, the company also has plans to expand with a second plant near Newport, Wales. Joint MD Jeremy Parkin adds: “We are keen to establish the standard for plants like this, which will one day become a familiar sight across the UK.”

Aston University has announced a new initiative, guaranteeing all full-time master’s students a professional internship as part of their studies. Launching in September 2025, the Postgraduate Guaranteed Internship Scheme will be available to students enrolled in MSc, MA and MBA programmes at both the Birmingham and London campuses.

This scheme is designed to enhance employability by providing high-quality industry placements lasting between one and six months. These internships may be conducted in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid format, and will be facilitated through Aston’s global network of employers. The initiative is available to both UK and international students.

• Worcestershire-based Four Squared Recruitment has launched its new Recruitment Academy, a strategic initiative aimed at developing early careers and entry-level talent. International manufacturer invests £170m in North Wales facility

The UK and Welsh governments have welcomed the investment into a new facility from the international manufacturer.

The announcement comes as the UK and EU hold a summit to discuss future opportunities to boost economic growth.

The landmark development will produce more than 100,000 tonnes of non-combustible rock mineral wool insulation per year and create around 140 direct jobs, with more in local supply chains.

The announcement coincides with the UK-EU Summit that took place on Monday [19 May 2025].

Secretary of state for Wales Jo Stevens said: “This £170m investment by Knauf Insulation is fantastic news for North Wales and our UK government mission to drive economic growth.”

Using UK-First Submerged Arc Furnace technology, the new factory will produce non-combustible, low embodied carbon, recyclable rock mineral wool insulation to support the need for safer, more energy efficient and sustainable buildings.

The UK and Welsh government-backed North Wales Growth Deal and the Flintshire and Wrexham Investment Zone collectively support the decision by Knauf Insulation to lo-cate a second plant in the area.

As leaders in the production of sustainable building materials, Knauf Insulation’s expansion further supports the growing advanced manufacturing cluster in North Wales.

Health Care Resourcing Group launches staff bank app for MoD with Patchwork

This solution for the MoD has seen the roll-out of a new digital staff bank, through which compliant flexible workers will be able to gain priority access to assignments across the UK and overseas as they become available, supporting the MoD’s requirements, a statement said.

The contract awarded to HCRG is for a managed resourcing platform for assigning temporary doctors, nurses, dental professionals and allied health professionals. These flexible workers will provide support to the permanent military and civilian workforce, predominantly in the provision of primary, but also secondary, healthcare and dental and mental health services.

Assignments will be available in UK and overseas tri-service military locations, offering a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to practise their skill base in a variety of primary and secondary healthcare, dental and mental health service settings.

The technology for the staff bank has been built by healthtech experts Patchwork, who hold a number of collaborative banks for NHS Trusts throughout the UK. Patchwork’s technology will be used to allow members of the staff bank to accept assignments instantly through an app designed by and for healthcare professionals. The app, tailored for this exclusive staff bank, has been designed to provide a more efficient assignment process and ensure every flexible worker is fully compliant.

An HCRG statement said: “Whereas previously healthcare professionals may have been waiting on the call from locum agencies, we’re now providing instant, priority access to assignments as they go live via the app, allowing for professionals to self-book assignments 24/7.”

The staff bank is welcoming applications from all healthcare professionals, including those with previous locum or permanent MoD experience, it should be noted that current permanent MoD Military and MoD Civil Servants cannot join the FHR (Staff Bank), the statement said.

• Legal Recruitment firm Clayton Legal is opening an additional office in Manchester city centre. The new office space, it says, signals a “real step change” in line with its growth plans across the region where the company will continue its hiring efforts. Its head office remains in Preston in the North-West.

Code First Girls, a female-founded UK business that supports women into coding education and employment for free, has announced a £4.5m Series A funding. According to Bdaily News, the fundraising comes from female angel investors and a leading investment firm to accelerate the company’s growth and close the gender gap in the traditionally male-dominated tech industry.

The funding will enable Code First Girls to reach its ambitious target of providing one million opportunities to women to learn how to code and secure a job in tech over the next five years. As part of its ambition to provide one million opportunities to women, alongside free online courses at every stage of the pipeline, Code First Girls plans to put over 26,000 women through the ‘CFGdegree’ and place them into tech roles over the next five years.

IGA Talent Solutions, a specialist recruitment firm backed by recruitment entrepreneur James Caan’s private equity house Hamilton Bradshaw Group, is to expand in Ireland. The new office in Cork is IGA’s fifth outpost as the business continues to expand in the UK and overseas. Led by Mark Stanton, the office is based out of Republic of Work on the South Mall in Cork and will support delivery for existing UK clients and work with Irish-based businesses looking for talent in a post-Covid world. The move will see the firm invest €1m (£0.87m) into the city in the next three years and create up to 20 new jobs in the area.

Keystream Group has opened a new regional office in the North-East of England. The Newcastle office will be the first outside London for the recruitment and consultancy group, and it will be run by Heather Gordon. She specialises in NHS recruitment for digital, analytics and PMO professionals. Keystream says the new office will enable it to widen its recruitment reach and match talent to vacancies in the North.

• Tech recruitment firm Next Ventures is opening a new office in Spinningfields, Manchester’s financial centre. Andrew Mcloughlin is appointed practice director emerging technologies, with the firm also hiring experienced recruiters at the new location.

Pertemps has announced its partnership with charity Sense to help people with complex disabilities find new careers. The Warwickshire-based recruitment firm will support with funding and recruitment input to help beneficiaries of the national disability charity. Sense will advise Pertemps on recruitment processes and materials to ensure they continue to make careers as accessible as possible to all.

Russell Taylor Group has launched a new initiative to equip its workforce with the skills to strengthen the economy. In its own Training Academy, the company is expanding its home-grown talent focus to train, develop and upskill its recruitment teams – from apprentices just joining the business to existing staff on a route to senior management roles.

• Recruitment specialist 365 People has announced it is moving to a new four-storey office building in Leicester City Centre. The premises is located on Belvoir Street in the middle of a hotspot for recruitment in the city. 365 People, established at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in July 2020, is a warehouse, logistics, engineering and commercial recruitment specialist, supplying local workers to local businesses across the East and West Midlands.

• Payroll provider Deel has launched Instant Card Transfer in partnership with Paysend to offer contractors abroad the option to get paid instantly and directly to their bank accounts using their cards. Instant Card Transfer enables contractors to access their money when they need it, without it says unnecessary delays, costs or uncertainty. Deel is initially rolling this feature out in Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Honduras, Philippines, Kazakhstan and the Dominican Republic, where currency exchange and international payments often take longer than usual.

First Advantage Corporation, a global provider of human resource technology solutions for screening, verifications, safety and compliance, has opened a new office in Kraków, Poland. The firm is also hiring technology, customer care and operations positions for the facility located at High Five Office ul. Pawia 9 Kraków. One of the largest workplace HR screening providers in the world, First Advantage has a presence in 19 countries and 29 offices across the globe.

• IT recruitment firm iSource Group has relocated from Brewery Wharf in Leeds after more than a decade, moving to more central office space in Infirmary Street. The business has also welcomed eight new colleagues to the team and celebrated two senior promotions.

• Global recruitment firm McGregor Boyall has expanded its presence in the US by launching operations on the East Coast. McGregor Boyall North America will focus on technology verticals initially, primarily in the financial services sector. International managing director Richard Lett will head up operations in North America and focus on establishing and growing McGregor Boyall’s presence on the East Coast. He has more than 20 years of recruitment experience and joined the recruiter in 2012.

Oyster Partnership today launches its rebrand and website, as well as its new offices in London’s Mayfair. The recruitment firm says the rebrand – ‘Bring on the brilliants’ – is about building something “extraordinary” for clients, candidates and for its own people. A social media campaign invites people to share experiences they feel are worth waiting for, and be in with a chance of winning a £350 voucher and some enviable goodies.
