NRL Group acquires Newcastle-based CD Group

Engineering recruitment and contracting specialist the NRL Group has acquired CD Group.

The Newcastle-based business, which has traded as Contract Design (Northern) for over three decades, is comprised of several business units providing services including temporary and permanent recruitment, design engineering and drafting, and translation services. Brands include Contract Design (Northern) and Eldon Bureau.

According to an NRL statement, the acquisition of the 35-year-old CD Group aligns with its continued strategic growth plan, with both businesses operating in similar industry sectors, delivering complementary services. Combined, the two organisations will share a projected annual turnover of around £185m, an NRL statement said.

CD Group managing director Peter Douglass is leaving the business.

The NRL Group operates in renewable energy, power generation and infra-structure. From its beginnings at Sellafield in 1983, today’s diverse global group supplies a range of recruitment resourcing, outsourcing and consultancy services. Its technical contracting businesses provide non-destructive testing (NDT) and rail services in safety-critical environments.
