Greystone implements a ‘choose your own hours’ approach

With some recruiters trialling a four-day working week, recruitment business Greystone has gone one step further with a ‘no set working hours’ ethos.

Greystone has implemented a completely flexible working pattern, changing the way recruitment agencies are perceived by creating a better and reimagined way of working, according to the company.

Not only does Greystone not work the usual 9-5, it is a 100% remote company, meaning it no longer has a permanent, physical office. Greystone gave up its swanky South Coast offices with games area and fully equipped kitchen in February 2020 and “the staff have been thrilled with their work-from-home lifestyle”, a Greystone statement said.

Director Simon Wilson said: “It was clear to me that the Covid-19 pandemic was going to be around for a while. As we all now know, it just got increasingly worse throughout 2020, so we made the right decision for our teams to work from home, before we were instructed to do so.”

And 16 months later, the work-from-home ethos remains. “We aren’t even considering getting an office again at the moment because the pandemic has shown us just how successful our teams can be when their work integrates seamlessly with their lives,” said director Phil Hodgson.

Wilson added: “The proof is in our productivity; and we’ve had the best six months on record since we established the business in 2016.”

Is this the new normal for recruiters or will other businesses be playing catch-up to this new way of working in the future? We’d love to hear from you – or find out why you don’t think this is right for your recruitment business.Other flexible recruiters Recruiter.co.uk has reported on include BWD, MRL Consulting Group, PRS and Highfield PS.
