Hundreds of nuclear jobs in the North-West after takeover

A US nuclear services firm is to create hundreds of jobs in Birchwood, Warrington.

The Warrington Guardian reports the move follows Jacobs’ acquisition of Wood Nuclear, part of Scottish energy services Wood, which currently employs 1,000 people in the town.

The deal, worth around £250m, means 300 to 400 highly-skilled people will be recruited during the next year – some of whom will work in Birchwood and a nearby office in Knutsford.

The move expands the number of Jacobs UK employee base to nearly 11,000 “and increases access to specialist talent – particularly in locations across Cheshire and Cumbria, UK, as well as expanded reach into Europe, Japan, the Middle East, South Africa and the US”, according to Jacobs chair and CEO Steve Demetriou.
