More action needed to Ban the Box after report reveals ‘slow progress’

Urgent action is needed to stop employers asking candidates about criminal records at the initial application form stage, according to the co-director of a national charity that supports people with criminal convictions, after a report found that progress to ban the practice has been slow.

Christopher Stacey, a co-director at Unlock, told Recruiter that only 110 employers across the UK had signed up to the ‘Ban the Box’ campaign that has been running in the UK since October 2013, when it was launched by Business in the Community. “Although the change by the employers involved has been positive, there is still a long way to go – 110 in five years...
