UK-headquartered Balfour Beatty is to create 300 new jobs in the US, thanks to a $697m (£537m) contract win.

In a statement, released this morning, the international infrastructure group revealed the contract will see it take on the electrification of the 52-mile Caltrain rail corridor between San Francisco and San Jose on the US West Coast, laying the foundations for the future operation of high-speed trains.

The group added the project, due to start this autumn with completion expected in spring 2020, will see a workforce of over 300 employed at the peak of the project, including 50 apprentice roles.
