Industrial recruitment agencies The Best Connection and Transline were undergoing intense grilling from MPs today, at press time, as their management of workers supplied to retailer Sports Direct was scrutinised. 

Pay and fining practices at the retailer's Shirebrook, Derbyshire warehouse were especially under the spotlight during the interrogation of bosses at the recruitment firms, and Sports Direct founder and deputy chairman Mike Ashley.

Recruiter reported back in December that Sports Direct was to undergo a review of its relationship with staffing agencies. 

In January, Sports Direct announced it was to pay its direct employees and casual workers above the minimum wage but no mention was made of pay relating to people employed through staffing agencies.
