An increase in UK construction and rail staffing has somewhat offset US-based engineering and IT recruiter CDI Corp’s decreasing revenue.

The company’s unaudited financial results for the three months ended 30 June reveal that while its UK business was “negatively impacted” by the UK general election, an uptick in its UK construction and rail business helped lessen the affect of decreases in all other business lines.

Overall, group revenue was down 13.2% over the quarter to $246.8k (£158.9k) while gross profit was down 12% to $46.6k, as compared to the same quarter last year.

Company commentary included in the financial statements noted the decrease was primarily due to a decrease in its professional staffing services division, which was impacted by a reduction in Canadian staffing in the oil, gas and chemical sector.

It was also affected by adverse currency exchange rates.
