English-speaking locals in demand for Chinese multinationals
Fluent English speakers are experiencing exponential growth in pay and hiring demands from Chinese-based multinational corporations, according to mid to senior-level recruiter ZW HR Consulting.
The Chinese headhunter said in a statement the country’s multinationals were concerned about “major culture gaps” between themselves and the local population.
In the statement, ZW HR general manager Joyce Jing said multinationals were reducing the number of foreign staff, especially in management-type positions, and shifting their focus to local talent.
“Our ZW China Salary Guide for 2015 indicated that local Chinese candidates who are fluent in English are going to be paid better and hired faster by these companies.”
The statement went on to say experienced candidates boasting niche skills and looking to change jobs were able to command salary increases of roughly 20-30% due to the limited talent pool.
“Throughout the year, we have seen a high demand for business-savvy English-speaking professionals among the foreign multinationals,” added Jing. “Skilled finance professionals fluent in English are currently in short supply and high demand.”
The statement added trends and recent studies pointed toward the adoption of the English language within internal communications throughout global business entities.
