According to a company statement, the move is intended to give both visitors and prospective employees a good first impression of Barrow and BAE Systems by providing a clear picture of the local heritage and community.

BAE Systems Submarines head of business strategy Jackie Arnold said in the statement: “Barrow’s rich heritage and history of designing and building world-class submarines is what attracts our skilled employees, so we are looking forward to working alongside the Dock Museum to enhance our recruitment experience.”

She went on to say the move forms part of a wider plan to upgrade its submarine site over the coming years, which is expected to create hundreds of jobs. The number of jobs and timeframe were not disclosed.

A 10-year lease has been signed with the museum and the 20-plus strong recruitment team will be relocated over the coming two weeks.

The team is currently working from offices in the Barrow-in-Furness shipyard.
