An Australian Aboriginal employment programme that ties welfare payments to job outcomes is to be extended after it was revealed indigenous employment rates are continuing to slide, The Australian has reported.

The A$45m (£22.9m) Vocational Training and Employment Centre programme is being expanded to place 300 more Aboriginal people into guaranteed jobs.

The total number of jobs now supported by the programme is more than 5,000.
