Tue, 20 Jan 2015Sales representative positions are the most difficult roles to fill in three out of five of the UK’s largest job-creating cities, according to global job board Indeed.
Indeed’s research revealed Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester and London as the UK’s top five cities by number of open jobs over the past year on Indeed.co.uk.
The data reveals a scarcity of sales professionals in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester, while in Bristol and London software quality assurance engineers and testers were among the most difficult to fill jobs.
Indeed director Paul D’Arcy told Recruiter this dearth of sales professionals has affected all regions of the UK during the past 12 months.
“As the UK’s steady economic recovery continues both inside and outside of London, more employers are looking for talented sales professionals to drive growth,” he said. “With a relatively high turnover among sales representatives across all industries, employers find themselves competing for the right talent for their organisation.
“In London and Bristol, there is a high demand for software quality assurance testers and engineers. We are seeing a general shift across industries, with more employers looking to recruit staff with digital skills,” he added.
“Computer software engineers and application developers are in demand in London where organisations are increasingly looking to technology innovation as a means to compete. We’re seeing several big banks looking to bolster their technology teams.”
Meanwhile Indeed’s ‘Time to Fill’ vacancies report, published today [20 January], reveals the construction sector has the greatest difficulty finding the right candidates, with more than a third (36%) of advertised posts going unfilled for three months. The sector was followed closely by the arts, entertainment and recreation sector, where 34% of vacancies were open for at least three months.
The administrative and support services sector, which includes work such as office administration, travel agents and security services, has the least difficulty hiring employees, with 18% of job vacancies advertised for three months or more. Next on the list is the accommodation and food services, where just under a quarter (24%) of vacancies remain advertised after three months.
