REC JobsOutlook: Eight in 10 employers expect to hire perm staff but hiring intentions dip

While eight in 10 employers expect to hire new permanent workers in the next quarter, organisations’ hiring intentions have dipped slightly, according to the December findings for the latest JobsOutlook survey by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC).

The survey of 600 employers reveals 80% of employers surveyed plan to take on perm staff within the next three months, while only 7% intend to cut permanent headcount.
But this month also records a slight reduction in employers’ hiring intentions from 87% in November to 84% in December.
Over the medium term (4-12 months), 76% of employers surveyed are planning to recruit, with just 1% signalling intentions to cut their permanent workforce.
Meanwhile, 43% of employers plan to take on more temporary workers in the next three months, and 46% plan to increase temp staff headcount in the next 4-12 months.
