Mon, 12 Jan 2015The number of new professional jobs created in the City of London fell from 7,350 in November to 4,620 in December, according to the latest Morgan McKinley Employment Monitor.

However, despite this year’s traditional seasonal slump in recruitment activity, the number of City professionals seeking new roles increased 51% year-on-year in December.

The monitor reveals 6,378 professionals – in and out of employment – were looking for a new job in December, up from 4,214 in December 2013.

The finance staffing specialist’s findings also show a decrease both in professional opportunities (down 37%) and in professionals seeking to move (down 23%) month-on-month.

Hakan Enver, operations director, London at Morgan McKinley, told Recruiter professionals skilled in interpreting regulations into policy are in demand, while demand is also outstripping supply for skilled IT executives.

He told Recruiter: “The shackles are off for the big corporates but more excitingly, the influx of investment for start-ups across the City has created a new dynamic.

“Big data (or data science), business intelligence and analytics have created significant demand, particularly in London's Tech City where nearly 1,500 companies have been launched in the past few years. Key skills and [software] languages to pick up are Hadoop, Python and R,” he added.

“With all this new information being created and accessible on various platforms and mobile, IT security remains a particularly high priority for employers."
