Four New Year’s accolades in the recruitment sector
A director of people and learning, an employment and skills co-ordinator, a student recruiter and a managing partner for talent represented the recruitment sector in 2015’s New Year’s Honours list.
Global assurance, tax and advisory services provider EY’s managing partner for talent Liz Bingham was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to equality in the workplace.
She began her accountancy career over 30 years ago and has gone on to lead EY’s corporate restructuring practice.
She is now a member of EY’s UK & Ireland leadership team and is responsible for the firm’s employer brand strategy as it relates to its people, clients and communities in which it operates.
In a statement, she said she was “incredibly proud and humbled to have been nominated for this honour.
“I am passionate about equality in the workplace and firmly believe that diverse and inclusive organisations draw on the broadest range of talent, which enables them to attract and retain the best people and seek out the widest spectrum of views.”
British Red Cross director of people and learning Roger Smith was also given an OBE. His accolade was received for his services to first aid.
After a successful career in education, including 10 years as a head teacher in London, Smith joined the British Red Cross in 1993 as head of training.
In his current role as director of people and learning, he covers the areas of learning and development, human resources, volunteering, organisation development, employee relations, security and the carbon reduction programme.
In a statement, he said he was privileged to have the job he does.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council employment and skills co-ordinator Paul Cheeseman was awarded an OBE for his services to homeless people and voluntary organisations.
Plymouth College of Art head of student recruitment Alan Lemin was made a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire for services to further and higher education and to the community in Cornwall.
