Fri, 30 Jan 2015The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has suspended a recruitment firm’s licence for lying on visa applications for household services workers being sent to Dubai.

POEA administrator Hans Cacdac said in a statement that recruiter Zareiko Productions “committed acts of misrepresentation” when it submitted documents to the POEA for five workers.

According to the documents, the workers were heading out for roles as an accounts assistant, cashier, cleaner, driver and secretary. They were actually set up with work as domestic helpers.

The workers escaped their respective employers and fled to a welfare centre in Dubai. They all complained of overwork, inadequate food and low salary.

Cacdac said such workers “deployed through misrepresentation or deceit are more vulnerable to abuse and maltreatment”.
