Scottish Parliament brings in Living Wage for contractors

All contractor staff working at the Scottish Parliament will be guaranteed a Living Wage, presiding officer Tricia Marwick has announced.

The change, endorsed by the Scottish Parliamentary Body, will mean that all contractor staff, including catering and cleaning staff, will receive an hourly rate of at least £7.85 from 1 January.
Marwick said the cost of the change was “relatively small” in financial terms but “symbolic” for employees and employers.
The initial cost of the salary increase will be around £21k with annual readjustments likely to cost an additional £7k a year.
