Wed, 5 Nov 2014More than 16,000 job opportunities have been created for young people following the creation of a government-backed job programme in Wales.
Julie James, deputy minister for skills and technology, announced that Jobs Growth Wales had exceeded its target almost 18 months ahead of schedule.
The programme, which receives finance from the European Social Fund, provides people aged between 16 and 24 a job opportunity for six months, with the aim of permanent employment being offered after that.
Figures showed that 16,108 job opportunities have been created since the programme began in 2012 and 12,730 vacancies have been filled. Eight out of 10 opportunities have been taken up in the private sector. After six months the majority (83%) of participants either go into sustained employment, an apprenticeship or further learning.
