The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has suspended a recruitment agency for charging excessive placement fees.
A statement from the organisation says it issued an order of preventative suspension against Lexus Incorporated.
The agency was alleged to have collected placement fees higher than allowed by government regulation.
POEA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said 20 Filipino factory workers, who the agency deployed to Taiwan, had filed separate complaints about overcharging.
They alleged the agency charged them Php90k to Php130k (£1,254 to £1,812). They were to be paid the equivalent of Php28k a month.
An agency is only allowed to charge an amount equivalent to one month’s salary.
The licences of Lexus Inc recruiters have been cancelled.
