Business secretary Vince Cable has called on the government to abolish the cap on skilled worker visas, according to a report in the Financial Times.

It was reported that Cable wrote to home secretary Theresa May to warn her that restrictions on workers from outside the EU were starting to damage the economic recovery. This follows revelations that the business demand for skilled workers is set to exceed the annual limit of 20,700.
A spokesperson for the Department for Business Innovation & Skills told Recruiter that they had nothing to add at this stage and that it doesn't "divulge" details surrounding ministerial correspondence.

It comes at a time when employment screening and vetting firm Security Watchdog launched a service to support organisations wanting to employ people from outside the EU and EEA.
