The US Department of Labor has announced funding of $10m (£6m) for a project that addresses exploitative child labour in Ethiopia.

The US Department of Labor has announced funding of $10m (£6m) for a project that addresses exploitative child labour in Ethiopia.

Bids for the funding can be made by commercial, international, educational or non-profit organisation(s), including any faith-based, community-based or public international organisations.

The project must meet the following criteria:

  • Provide services to youth ages 14 to 17 to help prevent and reduce their involvement in hazardous and exploitative labour situations
  • Help youth to develop the marketable skills needed to secure decent work that is appropriate for their age
  • Promote education and vocational training opportunities for youth
  • Seek to enhance livelihoods and access to social protection programmes for youth and their households
  • Support and encourage youth to take on leadership roles in their communities.

Applications must be submitted in English by 30 September.
