Thu, 1 May 2014The first intake of ex-forces personnel have completed the initial stage of their transition to become qualified offshore technicians at Petrofac, an international provider of integrated facilities services to the oil, gas and energy production and processing industries.
The eight ex-services personnel completed a bespoke eight-week technical and survival training course, delivered by Petrofac Training Services.
Andrew Ferguson, vice president, Europe, Petrofac Offshore Projects & Operations, says: “Ex-forces personnel have skills that typically transfer very well to offshore industries because they have the discipline to meet high safety standards; they can deal with harsh and dynamic environments; and they have the right technical background and training.
With the eight-week programme complete, the technicians will now be deployed offshore in permanent positions with Petrofac's Offshore Projects & Operations business. Once offshore, they will continue to be trained by an assigned mentor and assessed until they achieve an SVQ level 3.
