Up to 60,000 jobs are to be created after the Australian government decided on Badgerys Creek, in Sydney’s western outskirts, as the site for a second city airport.

Construction work on the $2.5bn (£1.4bn) project is set to begin in 2016.
While the initial construction phase is expected to generate about 4,000 jobs, the airport development is expected to create 35,000 jobs by 2035, increasing to 60,000 long-term jobs over time.
By 2060, the new airport has the potential to drive an increase in Australian gross domestic product (GDP) of almost A$24 billion (£13.4bn).
