US employment figures reveal mixed news

Unemployment rates were lower in March than in 2013 in 333 of the 372 metropolitan areas, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported.

The rates were higher in 30 areas and unchanged in nine areas.
Twenty-five areas had jobless rates of at least 10% and 59 areas had rates of less than 5%.
Yuma, Arizona, and El Centro in California had the highest unemployment rates in March at 22.5% and 21.4% respectively. Meanwhile Midland in Texas posted the lowest unemployment rate at 2.7%.
This follows on from the news in November last year where unemployment fell in the majority of US cities, as reported on recruiter.co.uk.
In other US jobs news, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a net employment gain of 421,000 jobs in the private sector during the third quarter of 2013. This was comprised of gross job gains of 7m as a result of new and expanding private sector firms, minus a gross loss of 6.6m jobs from closing and contracting private sector establishments.
