Last month Colorado held what is most likely one of the first ever cannabis industry recruitment fairs, and now Dixie Elixirs, the Denver-based cannabis company, has launched a competition to recruit product testers.
“The first thing people say to us when we mention our job is ‘hey, do you guys use product testers?’ – it was starting to become a running joke in the office,” Joe Hodas, chief marketing officer at Dixie, tells Recruiter.
The company currently use friends, family and employees for their market research, but have decided to branch out to get some “outside input,” on their product range, which includes a variety of drinks, chocolates, treats and remedies.
“We currently use friends and family for market research, but decided it would be a great idea to get some outside opinion on our products.
“It’s not a paid role, we’re not looking for someone to fill a permanent position, but if we have new products that need testing, then they would be called to test the product out.”
However, as Hodas puts it, Dixie isn’t looking to hire someone “just because they’re capable of getting stoned all day and all night.
“We’re looking for someone who is articulate, has some form of scientific background, and can produce detailed reports.
“It’s designed to be a bit of fun, but will require some level of work from the winners. We will be looking for testers to evaluate the flavour, consistency, effect and strength of our product,” he added.
The competition was originally launched as a Facebook campaign, with entrants having to first like Dixie’s Facebook page, and then submit a 90-second clip to YouTube stating why they would be ideal for the job.
Even though original interest was high, no videos had been received so Dixie decided to alter their strategy.
“We weren’t getting any entries so decided to change the idea. Over the weekend we launched a text message format, and since then, have had eight or nine entries.”
The competition closes 11 April, with winners to be announced 18 April.
